Studio Rentals at Welch Street Studios

Our studios are growing! As an active art community Welch Street Studios is seeking local artists interested in renting a working studio space, interacting with other artists, and expanding their network.

Welch Street art studios are ‘art-making’ spaces: intended for professional, intermediate and beginner artists who work regularly in their studios. Different studio sizes are available to match artists’ needs, set up inside a collectively shared space. The facilities are intended for artists who are working in most 2D mediums such as acrylic, watercolour and oil painting; as well as other art mediums, such as mixed-media, jewelry, photography, sculpture, art prints, drawing, illustration, and art-ware. Note, other art expressions will be considered.

This is a quiet working space, noise such as loud talking, music or hammering are not permitted so as to not disturb other artists. Teaching art in a studio is generally permitted, but it is suggested that classes are kept to one student at a time, so as to not disturb others. A registered District of North Vancouver business licence is also required if teaching and is also needed when selling art from the studio.

The studio lease requires a one-year commitment; delivering 12 post-dated cheques, with a one-month damage deposit. After the one year lease is up, artists can stay on a monthly basis or leave with one month's notice.

Important rules to note: no heavy manufacturing or production line work, no excessive noise, hammering, making excessive fumes, or using highly flammable products. Studios are not permitted to be used exclusively as a sales boutique, and/or a business office space, or as only storage space. We do not offer short term rentals or sharing rented space to un-registered artists.

How to apply to our Studios

The downstairs facility will include a kitchen, two washrooms, air conditioning/heating, bright lighting, overhead fan and a shared wash-up sink. We will have a secure building with an electronic Fob key for access, we give 1 fob per artist and have a building alarm and outdoor cameras. We have a well-lit outside space with free parking for artists on the premises. 

All studios will have electricity, locking doors with frosted glass looking onto the shared hallway. Studios located in the warehouse will have 9 ft. walls with no ceiling. The warehouse has a 25-foot roof with new lighting. Studios will have shelving installed for storage.

We allow two artists to share a studio if desired but one artist per studio will be the lease holder. Teaching is generally fine but one student at a time is best to have low noise. Overall we are offering a quiet environment within a shared space and have a high respect for the creative process, therefore loud talking, excessive odors, music or hammering are not permitted.

We offer each artist a free page on our website and free studio wifi.
